What's in De Techno Box #1

Alessandro Caiazzo
De Vinyl Klub releases a monthly box with vinyl records. At the end of each month, we do present the records to the world. If you're lucky enough, there's still some boxes to grab. No surprise anymore, but good records added to your collection ;)

The first box of De Vinyl Klub (De Techno Box #1) contains two beautiful EPs of very different styles. Black cover and dark sounds, the first record is "Kept in Reality" from Spekki Webu. This EP was released with Czech-label Seismic Rec. at the end of 2023 and represents quite well Spekki Webu's fingerprint sounds.

From the very first seconds, "Kept in Reality" projects the listener into an alien world, with atmospheres getting more complex and layered by the second and the never-ending pulsating beats that deliver a sense of urgency. It takes only a moment for your brain to figure out that the urgency is the need to move your body at the rhythm of these mysterious sounds. It almost gets violent and visceral. A pause, an interlude, then it goes back again at it.

It is difficult to label Spekki Webu's music in a genre, it's unique and punches hard. Spekki Webu is all-round artist, going from leading clubbers to a psychedelic, fast-paced journey, to hypnotizing audiences with his live sets (as during the latest edition of Ratherlost, with Feral). He is a prolific producer, active in sound design, and even in delivering audio/visual exhibitions.

It's not all dark in De Techno Box #1, it also gets quite crazy. The second vinyl record in De Box #1 is "Hear Me Neigh" from Maara. This EP was published with Kalahari Oyster Cult; there's not much to say about Kalahari, they release amazing stuff, and this is the first but definitely not the last time you'll hear their name with us.

That groove in "The Horse Track" is hard to beat and who could imagine that a horse's neigh would be a perfect little break from punchy kicks. It is 100% the horse sounds that make this record a crazy one, but nevertheless it's a fantastic (horse) ride. If you haven't exclaimed "what-the..." at some point, you gotta listen again.

Maara is a Canadian producer & DJ and delivers fun all the time you see her live. You don't believe it? Check out this set. Once again, if you haven't exclaimed "what-the..." at some point, you haven't paid enough attention.

Excited about these records? Check out De Techno Box #1 and get it!
