What's in De Techno Box #2

Alessandro Caiazzo

The first two months of De Vinyl Klub have passed, it's time to discover what was in our very second box. There's very few of De Techno Box #2 to grab, you've still got some time!

De Techno Box #2 contains one recently-released double LP, released with Dekmantel by the one and only Luke Slater: we're definitely talking about "L.B. Dub Corp - Saturn to Home".

"Saturn to Home" is a peculiar record, one that we would not usually send within the "Techno bangers" category; however, we did feel like everybody should have (at least) one record from Luke Slater. This album is heavily characterised by the live drumming (no machines this time!) and, of course, by the vocals, that are filling most tracks of this journey.

If you've lived in Eindhoven, you probably know–or have heard about–Arnol Kox, a preacher that was in the city center pretty much all the time and who passed away in 2020. "Only The Good Times" has a recording from the very Arnol Kox in it, saying (yelling?) the equivalent of the song title in Dutch. This is also a track remixed by Burial and released just a few weeks before the LP. Apart from Eindhoven street-characters, there's many more special guests in this album, going from the house legend Robert Owens to Paul St. Hilaire. If you do not know who these guests are, even discovering them can be part of the fun.

"Saturn to Home" is a journey through so many different genres and styles that it's difficult to know where to begin with. From the sci-fi, dreamy "Saturn to Home", to the disco-inspired "Your Love", through the tribal, jumpy, industrial "Krank", this record is a beautiful journey of hi-hats, kicks, and snares that will shine in your collection.

Give it a listen, and if you really like it, get a copy from De Vinyl Klub.
